For the past 6 months, the '74 Torch staff has worked very hard at putting together a quahty yearbook
that reflects all the highhghts of our past four years at Silver Lake. We feel the '74 Torch stands out as
being unique in layout and sense of style.

The staff is greatly indebted to our advisors, Mr. Govoni and Mr. Bennett, who have dedicated a great
deal of their time, effort, and hard work into producing an outstanding yearbook. We also would Uke to
thank Pat Connolly, our photographer, who worked very hard to meet our requests and who produced
quahty pictures for us.

We have had a great deal of fun also in putting together this yearbook. We are proud of our ideas, and
we hope you will also Hke them.

Sharon lee krueger

Through life we have walked in the shadow of our own ignorance

from oasis to oasis
Each yielding only enough to give courage

The cold of indifference chilis the heart

yet the soul and the intellect endure
As if lit by an eternal flame

Now we approach a time when we are forced from the warmth of our apathy,

yet we wish to stay.
Linger not, but peacefully surrender to the never ending vortex t)f life

and self knowledge

DEDICA TION

Mr. Dries

Mr. Spineili

Mr.Shattuck

The class of 1974 feels that, as a class, we have worked hard together for
the past four years. We feel that our class has been a most exemplary one,
not only in its school spirit, but also in its unity and desire to work together
to go places and to get things done. Because of this unique spirit, we feel the
1974 Torch should be dedicated to all members of the class. However, if it
weren't for the hard work of many special people we wouldn't have been as
successful as we have been. There are many people whom we feel have con-
tributed a great deal of time and effort for our benefit. It is our behef that
they deserve a great deal of recognition, and we would Uke to thank them
now.

To Mr. Dries, we are indebted for his wilUngness to help us out whenever
we'd call on him, regardless of how much of his own time it meant giving up.
Mr. Dries stands out as one of those people who has shown an unhmited,
genuine concern for us as a class, and this has been demonstrated by his
guidance these past four years.

To Mr. Spineili, we thank him for his deep concern and guidance. Not
only did he help us tremendously with class activities such as car washes,
bake sales and the prom, but he also helped us maintain a good financial
stand by providing us with the opportunity to work at his father's motel.

We greatly appreciate the work of Mr. Shattuck and Mr. Glass, who are
already working hard at making graduation as enjoyable and memorable as
possible. They have helped us enormously this past year alone with all the
Uttle, yet important things we've done as a class.

To Mr. Montosi, we owe our thanks not only for his hard work with the
seniors on the football team, but also for showing a great interest in the wel-
fare of our class and all the people in it.

To Mr. Argenziano, we thank him for his never ending friendship and
wilhngness to do anything within his means to help us out whenever we
needed it. We know we can always count on him because he truly cares
about each individual student. He makes every effort to know and help ev-
ery student in any way he can.

Finally, we are greatly indebted to Emily Cavilla. She has shown us out-
standing leadership abiUties through these past four years as president. In
our opinion, there has never been a class as lucky as ours to have a person
such as Emily looking out for the best interests of everyone.

The class of 1974 greatly appreciates the hard work of all these special
people.

On Returning to Teach

At a distance, young voices are
whooping, to which my stately, fostering
mother pays no heed.

But as the moon bears with great

heaviness waters to itself, one tongue

reissues for attention.

It is mine.

I have come back to win the National

Book Award, but am locked in the English

department, let me out!

The Giving In

This afternoon a nil wind didn't blow
me home.

For no good reason, in another town
stones overturn, rabbits run wacky on the
loud tin roofs.

I see your point, I'm beginning to agree:
We need a friend.
